Sony introduced some new cameras today which are oriented towards vloggers. Designed for different needs, the Sony RX0 II is an ultra-compact camera with a massive sensor for its size, while the Sony A6400 is an evolution of Sony’s APS-C mirrorless cameras to offer the best technologies Sony has up its sleeve to vloggers.

Sony RX0 II

The Sony RX0 II is a diminutive camera. It doesn’t just fit in your palm, it literally can be hidden away if you close your fingers around it. But don’t let its size fool you as it features a 1″ stacked CMOS sensor backed by a BIONZ X image processor that not only gives you better color reproduction, but is also capable of full pixel readout 4K30p internal recording for exceptional detail and depth. If you are into stills, it can do up to 16fps continuous shooting with a maximum shutter speed of 1/32 000.

In addition to that, the ZEISS Tessar T* 24mm f/4 optics on the Sony RX0 II is also stabilized. While you would think that having such advanced optics would mean that this ultra-compact camera would be quite fragile, you couldn’t be more wrong. The Sony RX0 II is waterproof up to 10m, dustproof, shockproof up to 2m and crushproof up to 200kg. And just as a testament of how well Sony protected the camera from the outside world, you can even use the 180° tiltable LCD screen underwater.

The Sony RX0 II weighs a mere 132g despite all that protection, and is available for pre-orders starting now at RM2799. Availability is expected to begin in May 2019.

Sony A6400

Unlike the previous Sony A5xxx series of cameras which featured a flip-up display, the Sony A6400 packs a lot more of Sony’s latest innovations in addition to the 180° flip-up, touch-sensitive display. While you could say the previous generation of Sony cameras with a 180° flip display were handicapped from a features perspective, the Sony A6400 shatters all preconceptions about Sony’s vlogger-friendly cameras.

It inherits the impressive autofocusing system from their Sony’s full-frame cameras like Sony A9, A7R III and A7 III with 425 PDAF points and 425 CDAF points which cover approximately 84% of the image area. In addition to the high performance AF system, the Sony A6400 also packs the BIONZ X image processor which gives the Sony A6400 Real-time Eye AF with AI-based object recognition to deliver quick focus acquisition in just 0.02 seconds, and also maintaining it on moving subjects.
