Not long ago, Apple vowed to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, they’ve donated over 20 million face shields to medical workers to keep them well-protected from the virus.

Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted an update on the situation, where he states that the company has now also designed and produced a custom face shield for medical professionals. The first of these new Apple face shields were shipped to a Kaiser facility in Santa Clara Valley.

Apple CEO Tim Cook on the custom face shields:

We’ve launched a company wide effort bringing together product designers, engineering operations, packaging teams, and our suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for health workers. Our first shipment was delivered to Kaiser hospital facilities in the Santa Clara Valley this past week, and the feedback from doctors was very positive.

These pack flat, 100 per box. Each shield is assembled in less than two minutes and is fully adjustable. We’re sourcing materials and manufacturing in the US and China.

He also mentioned that they are actively working with government officials to get these custom face shields delivered where they are needed. Furthermore, they are hoping to export these to other countries who need them as well.

Cook states that the company is actively working with different government officials across the country to get these face shields delivered wherever they are needed and moreover, they are also hoping to start exporting these to other countries that need them.

Apple plans on producing more than 1 millions masks by the end of this week, and then 1 million every week subsequently. It is certainly an impressive figure that will certainly help the situation, especially places where supply of face masks may be lacking.

Pokdepinion: It’s a solid move to help the ongoing crisis. I’m just wondering if it has an official name like iMask or iShield.
