Previously during the Budget 2021 tabling, the Malaysian government confirmed that there will be RM50 eWallet credits given to youths as part of the eBelia program. Now, the government has announced that the amount will be doubled, but there is a catch to that.

Free eBelia eWallet Credits Doubled

According to Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, the eBelia eWallet credit initiative has been doubled from RM50 to RM100. However, the people who are eligible for the program has been narrowed down as opposed to the original “youths between 18 to 20 years of age” criteria.

After taking feedback from various members of the Parliament into consideration, the eBelia eWallet initiative will be targeted specifically towards students in institutions of higher learning. Basically, these would be pre-U, diploma, and degree students in Malaysian universities.

However, it’s worth noting that the age limit has been removed however, as it will also benefit those who are older than 20 years of age as well. For as long as you are still studying in higher institutions, regardless of IPTA or IPTS, you will benefit from the program. It is said that the initiative will benefit over 400,000 people.

For now, there is no word yet on how the government plans on disbursing the eBelia eWallet credits. We will report more on this as soon as information becomes available so stay tuned.
