Touch ID was introduced back in 2013 and kickstarted the norm of having a fingerprint sensor featured on a smartphone. However, it was sadly discontinued when Apple introduced Face ID with the iPhone X back in 2017.  Although Face ID has performed pretty well with the new iPhone series, there are many iPhone who still long for a fingerprint sensor mainly for their convenience and ease of use.

Apple might be featuring both Touch ID and Face ID on the iPhone 13

Looks like that’s about to change as there have been reports stating that Apple might be bringing back Touch ID for their upcoming iPhone 13 series devices. This does not mean that Apple bringing back the Home button though as the reports are claiming that Apple will be using under-screen fingerprint scanners. Something many Android users have been using for quite some time.

A recent Wall Street Journal report corroborated this claim. The report states that two unnamed Apple employees revealed that Apple will be featuring both Touch ID and Face ID on the new iPhone. One of the employees says that Apple will be implementing optical sensors for their under-screen fingerprint sensor. The company believes that optical sensors are better in terms of reliability that ultrasonic sensors. A patent submitted by Apple last year details how an optical sensor can detect a user’s fingerprint from anywhere on the screen.

Pokdepinion: It’s good to see Apple bringing back Touch ID to the new iPhone 13 series. I personally know a few iPhone users who prefer to have fingerprint sensors than face detection simply it’s easier to use. Also since facemasks are the pretty much a norm now, they need to constantly pull down their mask just to unlock their iPhones.
