New Alienware X-Series One Of The Thinnest Gaming Laptops Around

When you think of Alienware, chances are that the m15 and m17 gaming laptops come to mind. Now, there’s a new offering which is thinner than anything you’ve seen from them before, and it’s the new Alienware X-series gaming laptops.

As part of the new X-Series machines, we have the new Alienware x15 and x17, which are 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch gaming laptops respectively. They’re packed with some punchy firepower inside, up to an Intel Core i9-11900HX and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, with the thinnest chassis ever released by them at 15.9mm and 20.9mm respectively.

Typically, having powerful hardware in a thin body would result in thermal issues but this was solved using an “exclusive thermal interface material (TIM) concocted from an encapsulated gallium-silicone liquid metal compound”. This is combined together with the Alienware Quad Fan design, HyperEfficient Voltage Regulation, and AI-based Smart Fan technology to ensure that the system can run for long hours without worries of thermal throttling / overheating.

Both the Alienware x15 and x17 gaming laptops sport the new Legend 2.0 design with high endurance clear coat paint, magnesium-alloy frame with CNC-machined aluminum parts, and improved AlienFX lighting with up to 100 micro-LEDs. Other notable improvements include the move from HDMI 2.0 to HDMI 2.1 and the use of Thunderbolt 4, which supports charging as well but no word on the minimum wattage requirement for this.

Both the Alienware x15 and x17 will be launching in Malaysia sometime in June 2021. It’s worth noting that the x17 includes the option of the Cherry MX ultra low profile mechanical keyboard, but it’s not present for the x15. Retail prices for both have yet to be announced so stay tuned for further updates.

Pokdepinion: Given how thin it is, I expected it to be lighter than the M-series, but turns out no. Either way, I’m curious to see how these machines will perform, especially on the thermals. If they really managed to solve it, then it’s definitely a huge win for Alienware. Hopefully, we’ll get to see an AMD Ryzen-variant in the future.
