MSI has reportedly cancelled the pre-orders for the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio from Netherland retailers, as the GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio was going to be discontinued in favor of the GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio.

MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio

While there are few differences between the two cards, it appears that the main issue is that the unfulfilled pre-orders aren’t honored with a free upgrade from the Gaming X Trio cards with the newer GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio, and just outright cancelling them and refunding the customers.

As you might have noticed, prices for graphics cards have gone up quite significantly over the past few months. Simply cancelling pre-orders and refunding orders would generally mean that customers would now be unable to purchase the same graphics card they pre-ordered at the current prices. We aren’t sure whether this is a move by the retailers themselves or MSI are also being irresponsible here, but it definitely sucks for those who pre-ordered.

The only difference between the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio and GeForce RTX GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio is the backplate. Instead of the graphene backplate that felt like plastic on the Gaming X Trio version, the GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio touts a metal one like other premium graphics cards in the market.

Pokdepinion: Sounds kinda scummy… But I guess MSI could definitely reach back out to the pre-order customers to offer them a free upgrade to the GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio as a goodwill gesture…
