Alongside the existing 27″ and 21.5″ iMac, Apple latest 24″ iMac is definitely quite interesting. It is the first iMac to offer the Apple M1, which makes it the first to embrace the Arm-based Apple Silicon. It isn’t the first desktop from Apple to feature the chip though, as that would be the Mac Mini.

New iMac 2021 screen

With its new 24″ 4.5K Retina display, the new iMac offers some really impressive pixel density for a desktop display. I am also quite surprised that the Apple M1 can handle such a high resolution. Aside from the resolution, the display is capable of over 1 billion colors, and maxes out at 500 nits for a vibrant viewing experience.

New iMac 2021 design

The chassis of the new iMac has also been redesigned to be sleeker. The Apple M1 doesn’t require a whole lot of cooling, and Apple managed to make the iMac smaller by up to 50%, even when compared against previous-gen 21.5″ iMacs. They are now more colorful too, with two-tone finishes that employs bright colors on the back and softer colors around the display.

New iMac 2021 magsafe

They also came up with the magnetic power connector for this new iMac, although I am not exactly sure why does a desktop computer need it. Apple does not seem to want to call it MagSafe though, presumably so you do not confuse it with the iPhone 12’s MagSafe charging.

New iMac 2021 touch ID

On top of all that, Apple upgraded the FaceTime HD camera to a FHD one, adds a triple microphone array and also a pair of woofers and a pair of tweeters for a much better multimedia experience. There’s also Touch ID on the new wireless Magic Keyboard, which makes security on the new iMac much more convenient.

Apple iMac 2021 ports

For other stuff that you might want to connect to the new iMac, there are two Thunderbolt 3 ports along with two other USB-C ports, as well as a Gigabit LAN integrated into the power adapter, which is actually pretty smart of Apple.

New iMac 2021 pricing

The new 24″ iMac is priced from RM5599, although it is worth mentioning that this base model comes with one less GPU core than the iPad Pro. It also forgoes the extra USB-C ports and Gigabit Ethernet that are available on the higher-end models. If you want the full array of GPU cores and also the extra USB-C ports, you will have to shell out RM6449 if you are okay with 256GB of storage, or bump that up to RM7249 if you need 512GB.

Apple is literally charging you an extra RM850 if you want to have two extra USB ports, a LAN port in the power adapter and the option to choose from an extra three colors. I am truly impressed by their audacity.

Pokdepinion: With Apple rolling out the same chip across their tablets and Macs, I wonder when will we see a more powerful Apple M1, as in the rumored Apple M1X?
