After a vampire-filled visit to Innistrad last year, Magic: The Gathering is set to introduce its newest expansion yet with Kamigawa: Neon Destiny.

Kamigawa: Neon Destiny expansion coming very soon

MTG New Expansion, Kamigawa: Neon Destiny Set To Release On 18th February 25

Kamigawa: Neon Destiny sees the game make its grand return to the plane that was first introduced as part of the Kamigawa block way back in the year 2004. The new expansion places players in a unique setting that’s inspired by feudal Japan but infused with a cyberpunk flair. Players can expect a blend of futuristic and ancient elements in this new expansion.

Here’s a brief story description of Kamigawa: Neon Destiny.

In a city of looming skyscrapers and vibrant cherry blossom trees, cyber ninja Kaito Shizuki
searches for the missing Emperor of Kamigawa. With returning Planeswalkers Tamiyo and The
Wanderer by his side, Kaito must journey through the neon Undercity to investigate an unfolding
mystery; one that threatens the spiritual world of Kamigawa and the delicate balance between
soul and machine.

Set 1,200 years after the events of the original Kamigawa story, Neon Dynasty merges old with
the new as it transforms returning mechanics and introduces never-before-seen abilities.

Neon Destiny will introduce new mechanics as well as bring back older ones to Magic: The Gathering. One of these new mechanics is Reconfigure, which gives creatures the ability to equip themselves to other creatures and gain new bonuses. Double-faced cards return and play an important role in shifting the tides of battle, with Sagas that transform into enchantment creatures to provide players with additional unique abilities.

Channel is also back in Neon Dynasty, allowing players to discard a card with the ability to gain a temporary effect. Ninjutsu, another returning mechanic, allows Ninja creatures to sneak past an opponent’s defences: cards with Ninjutsu can be put into play already attacking by returning an unblocked creature to its owner’s hand.

Legendary Kamigawa creatures make a return, with the highlight being five legendary Spirit Dragons who are central to the plane. Samurai and Ninja creatures return as well, with a slew of new iterations for players to collect.

Neon Dynasty is based on traditional Japanese iconography and features ten “Ukiyo-e” basic lands, each with two different pieces of woodblock art available in foil and non-foil versions.

With Ninja and Samurai showcase frames, the new set also brings modernity to feudal aesthetics, styling these specific creature types with elegant and futuristic borders.

Neon Dynasty features some exquisite works of full-art cards that showcase certain Legendary creatures and Planeswalkers from the set as dazzling, vibrant pieces, thanks to a special collaboration with prominent Japanese artists Hara Tetsuo (Fist of the North Star), Yoji Shinkawa (Metal Gear Solid), and many more.

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty releases on 18 February 2022 for tabletop and will be available in Draft Boosters, Theme Boosters, Collector Boosters, Set Boosters, and the Neon Dynasty Bundle, as well as two Commander decks. You can also check out our preview of Sunblade Samurai, one of the cards that will be available in the expansion.

Pokdepinion: I’m pretty excited about this new expansion and I am looking forward to checking out the new mechanics and cards. I also love the new art Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty is bringing.
