As many of you may know by now, miHoYo has enjoyed quite a bit of success with Genshin Impact. Now, the company is looking to broaden their horizons as they are gearing up to create a new AAA shooter game. Here’s what you need to know.

As revealed by renowned analyst, Daniel Ahmad / @ZhugeEX, miHoYo announced that they’re opening a new R&D studio in Montreal. This studio will have over 100 employees over 2 years and they will be working on a new AAA shooter game.
To be precise, it will be an open world action adventure game with shooter mechanics within a “living, breathing paranormal world”, and it’s certainly a first of its kind for the company. Apart from Genshin Impact, miHoYo also has the popular Honkai Impact franchise in their portfolio.
It’s interesting that the company is setting up studio specifically to focus on one game. At the moment, they already have offices in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and the US. From what we know thus far, this game was first revealed by NVIDIA back in GTC 2019 under the codename Project X.
Despite the new direction, miHoYo mentioned that they will be staying true to their roots. As for what this means, it’s hard to say but I suppose expecting to see anime-esque characters would be within the realm of possibility. We will be reporting more on this as soon as information becomes available so stay tuned.
Pokdepinion: Initially when I heard about it, I thought they were gonna go for a Valorant or Overwatch-type game but if no major changes in plans are made, this is expected to be completely different. Can’t wait to see how it will turn out but I’m sure we’re gonna have to wait at least another 2 or 3 years before we get to see anything out of this.
