OnePlus 10T Review – Phone covers

Optionally, you can purchase OnePlus own phone covers which are The Glacier Mat Case and the Bumper Case Sandstone. The Glacier Mat Case is rather unique as the case features sustainable circulation cooling technology as it is made up of Glacier Mat Heat dissipation material.

The material reportedly accounts for 36% of the casing and when the phone becomes heated, it evaporates to dissipate heat and automatically rehydrates from the air when the phone cools down. The case claims to be 5G-compatible, allowing signals to flow freely without obstructions. On the other hand, the Bumper Case Sandstone features four layers of spray-painted fine-ground sandstone that offer grip and protection.

Performance

OnePlus 10T Review

OnePlus 10T Review – Antutu v9

Starting with Antutu v9, the performance of the OnePlus 10T lags behind the other flagship phones that run on the same chipset, even behind some Snapdragon 888 devices.

OnePlus 10T Review

OnePlus 10T Review – Geekbench 5

This is reinforced further in Geekbench 5 where the OnePlus 10T once again falls behind the majority of phones. Thermal throttling might be the reason for these results.

OnePlus 10T Review – 3DMark

However, the results of 3DMark surprised me as the OnePLus 10T is on par with or surpasses many other smartphones.

OnePlus 10T Review – PCMark Work 3.0

In PCMark, the OnePlus 10T falls short once again behind phones with the same chipset, being rather similar to the Sony Xperia 5 III.

OnePlus 10T Review – Battery life

The OnePlus 10T’s battery life can last up to 639 minutes at dynamic 120Hz and 568 minutes at 60Hz. This is most likely because the 120Hz option is adaptive, whereas the 60Hz setting remained constant. When running on 120Hz, you won’t have to worry about your battery life since you’ll receive both battery life and smoothness.

The most impressive part of the OnePlus 10T is its extremely fast wired charging of 150W SUPERVOOC. It takes the phone approximately 17 minutes to charge from 25% to 100%.

Camera

OnePlus 10T Review -

OnePlus 10T Review – Back Camera

The OnePlus 10T’s native camera UI is standard, with modes like Night mode, Pro mode, and numerous additional options to expand your possibilities while taking photographs and recording videos. The phone also has a triple camera configuration that includes a 50MP primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera, in addition to a 16MP selfie camera.

The camera started up rather quickly, and I was able to use it right away to capture some shots. The main camera captured very detailed images and films that can be compressed without sacrificing their quality. If you are unfamiliar with camera settings, the AI scene enchantment can assist you with improving image vibrance, exposure, and contrast or selecting the best mode for the subject you’re taking.

With the IMX766 sensor, the Night mode produces some stunning images while maintaining its original colours from what they are in real life. The only problem I have is that it takes 3 seconds to capture the image, which might cause blurry images if I am capturing a moving subject. The maximum zoom that I would recommend is up to 3x as the pictures will turn out ugly or super grainy.

The ultrawide camera is about the same as you can get from its mid-range counterpart, the Nord 2T, where colours look amazing under brightly lit areas but will fall off under low-light settings. The selfie camera produces decent photos with the subject mainly in focus. However, the photos do seem saturated under extremely bright lighting like outdoors with the sun high up.

Recording videos on the phone is quite enjoyable as I am able to shoot up to 4K 60fps with the Ultra Steady mode which can help with stabilization and reduce shakiness when filming while walking.

The Good

OnePlus 10T

OnePlus 10T Review – Display Screen

The OnePlus 10T features a 6.43″ Fluid AMOLED display with up to a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate that produces accurate colours which are rather enjoyable when playing mobile games, watching videos or scrolling through pictures. With 8.8mm thickness, the phone is slightly hefty, weighing 204g but it is still comfortable for me as someone with small hands.

The OnePlus 10T comes with OxygenOS 12.1, popular for its minimal bloatware which has unique features, such as the Shelf function and a large range of Always On Display customization options. Do expect the phone to be updated with OxygenOS 13 later this year with a facelifted UI and quality-of-life improvements

Another impressive feat is its ability to run multiple apps at once without lagging or a single frame drop. I could run CapCut, Lightroom, PREQUEL and Canva all at once and switch between apps constantly without the phone lagging, increasing productivity as I was able to get things done instantly.

Lastly, the phone can run Genshin Impact with middle to high settings on a maximum of 60 fps with no frame drops. However, while playing Tower of Fantasy, I did experience massive frame drops when entering new areas which gave me motion sickness but I do think the issue is more so on game optimization rather than hardware limitations. With Dolby Atmos, playing these games and watching videos are really immersive and I enjoyed its wide soundstage.

The Bad

OnePlus 10T Review

OnePlus 10T Review – Chrome side

The build of the phone feels slightly cheap as the company covers the side of the phone with a chrome plastic finish instead of glass. The glossy variant is somewhat of a fingerprint magnet, however, it is still controllable until the light hits the back of the phone and you can see the obvious grease and grime. If the constant cleaning does bother you, you can opt for a second textured variant called Moonstone Black or just buy a casing to cover up the phone.

Another design that bothers me is the decision to move the selfie camera notch from the corner to the middle. I would prefer the camera to remain at the left corner of the screen as most of the time my fingers would block the selfie camera when playing games or watching videos on fullscreen. However, with the camera now in the middle, it does bother me as it does get in the way while gaming and when watching videos as I can see an obvious black circle.

With the phone being marketed as a flagship phone, you would expect that the phone would also feature wireless charging. Unfortunately, the OnePlus 10T does not as the company has decided to fully focus on its super-fast charging of 150W. So, those of you who would still rather have the wireless charging feature can look into the OnePlus 10 Pro.

Despite featuring new haptic technology, the X-axis linear motor, the haptics on the OnePlus 10T does feel hollow when typing or even using gestures mode. Furthermore, the phone’s global version does not have any IP rating but the US model is IP54 rated. So, do be careful when dropping your phone into the toilet or taking it for a swim as this phone is only splash-resistant.

OnePlus 10T Verdict

OnePlus 10T Review – The phone with Glacier Mat Case

The OnePlus 10T starts at RM3,199, which is pretty decent for a flagship phone nowadays. If you want a phone with super fast charging, adequate battery life, great for multitasking, and close to stock android with decent cameras, you can consider getting this smartphone.

Before ending this review, I do want to talk about the decision made by OnePlus to remove its iconic alert slider and what I think about it. As a long-time user of OnePlus, it does sadden me that the company has decided to remove their signature alert slider that has been part of them since the OnePlus 2. This makes the phone lose its identity and comes off as a generic phone like many others in the market.

OnePlus 10T

OnePlus 10T Review – Missing alert slider

Despite removing the alert slider, I do not really see this as a flaw as the company did explain that the removal had to be done due to the required space for larger batteries and more antennas. Honestly, I do not use the alert slider as much as I thought I would.

A great analogy for this situation is when you’re having the flu, you sort of underestimated the times when you could breathe with ease but after when you’ve recovered, the thought would not even cross your mind until maybe when you have the flu again. Hence, I don’t think that the missing alert slider should sway your decision in getting this phone but other factors should.

At the end of our OnePlus 10T review, I award this phone with a Bronze Pokdeaward.
