Bayonetta 3 is Said to Have an Unorthodox Development Process

The Osaka-based game developer PlatinumGames will be facing their biggest challenge yet. It is set to undergo major shakeups to both their business and design strategies according to studio head Atsushi Inaba.

For the business side of things, it looks like PlatinumGames will be moving towards a self-publishing model for their games. For Bayonetta 3, Inaba mentioned that the studio is trying to move away from an “orthodox development process”.

With Bayonetta 1 and 2 we had basically an orthodox development process, at least for us,” he told VGC. “We did stage one, then stage two, then stage three and built up the drama and the pacing chronologically. For Bayonetta 3, we can say that we learned enough from making the past two games to change our process in a way that’s different to what I just described.

When asked if the changes were strictly related to development, Inaba hinted that it may be something that players will recognize. However, he declined to comment further on the matter. As for filling in the shoes of Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto, who recently left the studio, Inaba had this to say.

Platinum has a ton of different talented directors and they’re always vying for different projects. As I mentioned before, we make a lot of different games all at the same time. And so, without a doubt there’s enough talent here to fill the jobs that Hashimoto-san represented.

There is no word yet on who the game director is for Bayonetta 3.

Pokdepinion: This is one of the game studios that I have high hopes for. I’m pretty confident they will continue to do well moving forward.
