AMD Claims Its Ryzen 7045 Series “Dragon Range” CPUs Dominates Intel’s Raptor Lake CPUs

First party benchmarks shows performance leadership and efficiency domination for the upcoming Ryzen 7045 series CPUs.

AMD has revealed some information regarding its upcoming “Dragon Range” Ryzen 7045 series CPUs through its latest Meet The Experts Webinar event, which shows the new Ryzen beating Intel’s flagship mobile CPUs in performance while obliterating Team Blue in the efficiency department. While closely resembling the desktop chips, these CPUs get exclusive power-optimization features which cuts down power usage on various aspects.

The first exclusive feature is called Voltage Range Tuning, which does sounds a lot like undervolting – in any case, this nets both a reduction in heat and power which means the CPU can boost more aggressively. The second one involves memory subsystems – the Intermediate Memory States allows the I/O die to drop power but retain some levels of activity, and the power savings (AMD says it’s ‘significant’) can be re-allocated to the CPU core itself.

All of these features, according to AMD, equates to a massive 54% increase in power efficiency over Intel’s latest Raptor Lake CPUs (Core i9-13980HX used here). The Ryzen 9 7945HX – a 16-core, 32-thread CPU – scored 33,466 points while using 73 watts, less than Intel Core i9-13980HX at 28,837 points consuming 97 watts. The Ryzen 7045 series has a TDP rating of 55W+, with configurable power limit up to 75 watts for more robust cooling systems. They will come with a new label to differentiate itself among other Ryzen 7000 series APUs, and should hit the store shelves very soon.
