An Apple Store in Seattle was hit with burglary resulting in estimated $500,000 worth of losses, with iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches among the stolen products, with over 400 products lost according to local news. The thieves breached the store from an unlikely location: by cutting through a 24 x 18 inch hole from a coffee machine shop situated next to it.

“Our front door was locked. They pried our front door open. [It was a] 24 by 18 (inches) hole cut in the wall into what appears to be the back room of the Apple Store. I’m surprised we were the conduit for them to get to the Apple Store. I had no idea we were so close or adjacent to them.” says Eric Marks, Regional Manager of Seattle Coffee Gear, the affected shop. The incident has cost them roughly $1,800 in damages.

The thieves gained entry and left the area from the same hole, carrying all the stolen goods from there. Oddly, Macbooks in the store were left untouched – while local police department has attributed this incident as a “well-organized operation”. No fingerprint was left on site, and the investigation is ongoing as of this writing.

Of course, it is widely known by now that Apple has the ability to remotely lock retail devices by checking on the affected serial numbers and their IMEIs in the event of theft such as this, which will effectively turn these devices into “paperweight”, rendering them useless.

Pokdepinion: I thought thieves should’ve learnt by now it is no use to steal Apple products.
