Google Meet Tests AI-Generated Backgrounds Created Using Text Prompts

While not everyone is using online conferencing tools as much as in the pandemic days, platforms like Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom aim to add features here and there for those who still uses them for work. Over at Google, the company is testing on AI-generated background to add a bit of flair for those who want it.

The feature currently sits in Workspace Labs beta program – meaning you won’t get to use it right away. You’ll have to specifically opt in to try the feature (here), and it’s currently limited to desktop site. According to the support document, you can create an AI background by typing prompts, similar to how Bard or other image generative platform (i.e. Stable Diffusion) works.

From that point, there will be a few options available for you to pick, and if you feel all of them doesn’t quite fit your taste – there’s the “Create other samples” button that shuffles new results for you. Pick one that you prefer, and you’re off to the races. This process can be done at the meeting entry page, or during the meeting (through More Options > Apply visual effects).

Expect Microsoft and Zoom to jump on the AI train – but for now, you can join the beta program if you like to try things out for yourself.
