Google May Be Introducing Emoji Reactions To Gmail Soon

First discovered by Steve Moser of The Tape Drive, Google has been spotted trialing a new feature that makes Gmail functioning more similar to your regular messaging app. Microsoft’s Outlook already has such feature baked in, however.

The code relating to emoji reactions has been found in the iOS app, which is later followed by Gmail APK (courtesy of AssembleDebug) with several lines of code pointing to the feature’s existence. On the latter, there is one particular line that says this feature is “coming soon”, followed by “you’re among the first Gmail users to get an emoji reaction”, which likely points to a small-group trial in the plans before rolling into stable release.

The idea is that you don’t have to sent a full email to reply something as simple as “noted”, which should make email conversations a tad bit tidier. However, there are limitations: you can’t use it on encrypted messages, and the maximum amounts of emojis allowed are seemingly limited as well. When asked by The Verge, Google spokesperson Madison Cushman Veld gave the publication a rather conspicuous reply: “😉,✋📻.”

Pokdepinion: Here’s hoping your next email don’t end up seeing “💩” anytime soon.
