Jabra Elite 8 Active Is Claimed As World's Toughest Earbuds

Danish audio brand Jabra has just announced the new premium model under the Elite line, the Elite 8 Active. The company claims this is the “world’s toughest earbuds”, with preliminary report released to back up that claim.

While on the surface the Jabra Elite 8 Active doesn’t look much different than other models from the brand, under the hood there’s designs made to pass MIL-STD-810H military standard, as well as IP54 splashproof case and IP68 water resistance rating for the earbuds itself, which is rated for up to 1.5m of underwater submersion for up to 30 minutes.

The earbuds also went through what’s called Highly Accelerated Corrosion Testing (HACT), says the company. It involves subjecting the earbuds to 2 hours of 40°C ambient with 93% humidity, 15-minute saltwater splash test, and 15-minute 40°C heat drying test.

Toughness aside, the earbuds comes with hybrid ANC, which Jabra says adapts to the environment you’re in; and the HearThrough technology helps suppress wind noises often picked up by microphones more sensitively than human ears do. It comes with 6 microphones in total and a mesh cover to reduce wind noises, plus other features like Google Assistant, Fast Pair, Swift Pair and Spotify Tap, with a claimed battery life of 8 hours (32 hours combined with case).

With its 6mm drivers, the Elite 8 Active also supports smartwatch connectivity, Bluetooth Multipoint connection, and Bluetooth LE (Low Energy), LC3, LC3plus codec will arrive with a future firmware update. It’ll cost RM1,049 – and comes in three colors: Caramel, Navy and Dark Grey.
