WhatsApp Now Capable Of Switching Between Two Accounts On A Single Device

As confirmed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, WhatsApp will soon allow you to simultaneously switch between two accounts in the same app. This was announced on Zuckerberg’s Facebook page yesterday. “Soon you’ll be able to have two WhatsApp accounts on one phone within the app,” he wrote in the post.

While dual-SIM phones has been a standard feature in most Android phones for more than a decade now (Apple is particularly late to the dual-SIM stuff, only featuring it 5 years ago), those who owns two phone numbers still has to physically carry two smartphones for separate WhatsApp instances. Though, some Android phone makers has already implemented a workaround for this, using app cloning which goes by the names of “Dual App”, “Dual Messenger” and the likes.

“Helpful for switching between accounts – such as your work and personal – now you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones or worry about messaging from the wrong place,” the company wrote in its blog post. To set up the feature, first install the second SIM card (or eSIM) if available, then head to Settings, tap on the arrow next to your name and tap “Add account”. WhatsApp also noted that each account will run on their own privacy and notification settings.
