Pretty much every modern gaming GPU these days comes with at least one HDMI port that most people wouldn’t care too much aside from the version it carries – such as 1.4, 2.0, or 2.1. However, this special GALAX RTX 4090 20th Anniversary Edition comes with a secret sauce sitting behind the sole HDMI port, making it capable of delivering signal outputs over long distances.

It’s called a HDMI retimer – this specialized chip (Parade PS8419 in this case) supports the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth of 48Gbps, making it capable of delivering 4K120 or even higher. GPUs usually don’t come with this type of chip installed, as most PC users simply have no use case for connecting a display 10 meters away, for example. However, it’s a standard component in consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X, as they are designed to be housed inside TV consoles or places that potentially are far away from the TV, thus making retimer chip a necessity.

That said, this chip is only designed for the sole HDMI port, meaning that the remaining three DisplayPort outputs do not benefit from this chip’s presence. On other aspects of this GPU, it comes with 24+4 power stages, and features a unique triple-fan design that sees one fan placed behind the card, similar to that of NVIDIA’s own Founders Edition offerings.

If you want one of these cards, bad luck – GALAX says this model will remain a China-exclusive model with no intentions to launch into the global market.

Pokdepinion: This makes for an ideal GPU to build the PC that beats the console at its own game, then?
