Due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, MSI and other companies are unable to fulfill their obligations under their agreement with the developer of MSI Afterburner, a popular overclocking tool for graphics cards. As a result, the project has been inactive for over 11 months and is now only being supported by the developer, Alexey, in his spare time.
Without MSI’s support, users may have difficulty finding an alternative tool that natively supports as many GPU vendors as MSI Afterburner does. Many GPU brands now offer their own monitoring and overclocking software that also includes features such as lighting control and fan speed control. There is a similar tool by the same company, and it’s called MSI Center.
MSI Afterburner, a popular overclocking tool for graphics cards, has been facing licensing issues due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. As a result, the project has been inactive for over 11 months and is now only being supported by the developer, Alexey, in his spare time. Despite this, MSI is still officially listing the software for new GPUs, including the RTX 4070 Ti.
However, scammers have attempted to take advantage of the software’s popularity by releasing cloned versions with malware. MSI has warned that the official source for the software is still their website. It’s worth noting that the RivaTuner Statistic Server (RTSS), a statistics and overlay software, is not an MSI tool and is therefore not affected by the sanctions.
It’s worth noting that 3rd party software that uses RTSS may be impacted. Alexey has stated that he will continue to support the Afterburner project in his free time, but it may not receive the full support it needs due to the possibility of sanctions on access to prerelease hardware.
Pokdepinion: Well, at least we get to use it for a while longer. Once it’s done for good, hopefully we have a better alternative that is at least somewhat universal.
