Someone Was Bored Enough At Work To Create Tetris On Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel isn’t something anyone would associate the word “fun” with, given that it’s as mundane as it gets in your bog-standard office environment. However, Reddit user MehmetSalihKoten has devised a fully functional Tetris game within the bounds of the spreadsheet program, so you can perhaps get occupied when the boss is not watching.

The short clip in the post reveals the Excel Tetris in its full glory, and as far as Tetris goes, it’s pretty close to the real deal. You have the preview of next blocks, scores tracking, and even a list of blocks held in at least five slots for swapping if needed.

It’s quite the feat, although upon closer look one may notice that the Tetris blocks themselves are, in fact, not colored. You’re also required to click on the buttons to rotate or speed up – not exactly intuitive. Still, probably good enough to sort out your office boredom, but imagine the next version that supports keyboard inputs and colored blocks. I’m not saying you can organize a competition among your colleagues…

The user did not share how the game was built, so there are not many details to be had here about this rather impressive showing of Excel skills. Of course, speaking of games running on places it shouldn’t be, who can forget the classic, Doom, running on Excel itself?
