HONOR Magic V2 Confirmed To Launch In Malaysia

HONOR Magic V2 Confirmed To Launch In Malaysia 28

HONOR Malaysia is starting 2024 with a big product announcement: the Chinese smartphone maker is introducing the HONOR Magic V2, heralded as the “world’s thinnest and lightest inward foldable phone.” The foldable smartphone first made its debut in its domestic market back in July 2023.

One of HONOR Magic V2’s highlights is its extremely thin chassis. It boasts a slim 9.9mm body (folded) and a weight of 231g, the figures of which barely resemble a conventional foldable smartphone. When unfolded, the Magic V2 measures just 4.7mm thick – half of any conventional smartphone.

Here’s some perspective: the Samsung Galaxy S23 is 8.9mm thick, and weighs 234g; meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes in at 8.3mm thick (12.8mm if you count the camera bump), and tips the scales at a still chunky 221g. Pitting it against Samsung’s latest foldable – the Galaxy Z Fold5 – gives the HONOR an even bigger lead as it measures 13.4mm thick and weighs 253g.

To achieve this level of lightness, the Magic V2 employs a super-light titanium alloy hinge with a mix of proprietary steel material (though HONOR didn’t say what element it is made of), which provides an equal balance of weight and strength. The use of mortise and tenon integral molding technology also helps reduce gaps between parts, which helps shave off any extra thickness, the company says. The hinge is designed to endure over 400,000 folds, equivalent to 100 daily folds for a ten-year lifespan.

Despite its slim design, the device houses a large 5000mAh silicon-carbon battery enabled by extra space attained from a slimmer display driver assembly, and a vapor chamber cooling system helps keep the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC in check thermal-wise. Other specs include 16GB of RAM, with up to 1TB of storage (though it’s unclear if we may be getting this variant).

While members of the media were invited yesterday to see this foldable phone in action (which involves making it ‘float’ on water), not many details were given just yet. We might need to wait a little while before the company formally launches this phone, for which the date is still TBA at this writing. In the meantime, the company has set up a microsite for the upcoming launch.
