Limited App Support for Apple Vision Pro – Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify Opt Out
The highly anticipated Apple Vision Pro augmented reality headset is set to hit the market soon, but it appears that major streaming platforms are opting out of providing dedicated apps for the device. Following the news that the Netflix app won’t be compatible, Bloomberg reports that YouTube and Spotify have also decided against developing apps for the $3,500 VR headset.

Contrary to popular expectations, none of these streaming services have plans to launch a dedicated visionOS app for the Apple Vision Pro, and even their iPad apps won’t be adapted for the AR headset. While users can still access these services through the device’s browser, the experience may differ significantly from the dedicated app interfaces.
The Vision Pro is currently available for pre-order, with deliveries scheduled to commence on February 2. It’s noteworthy that, unlike YouTube, which has a dedicated app for Meta Quest, Spotify has yet to develop an app for any VR headset.
In addition to these streaming services, Meta apps such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are also absent from the lineup of available apps on the Vision Pro. Although Meta has not officially confirmed its plans, there remains a possibility that these popular social media apps may be introduced to the platform in the future.

Pokdepinion: I’m pretty certain the tune will change when a whole lot more people are able to adopt Apple’s XR standard. The Apple Vision Pro is way too expensive for most consumers so until a much more affordable and less bulky version pops up, I don’t expect to see big numbers which means developers are less inclined to tailor make apps for it. It’s just business at the end of the day.
