Intel Arrow Lake-U Alleged To Slot Below Lunar Lake Chips, Likely As Core Series 2 Lineup

As Intel’s mobile lineup today consists of two families – the Core and Core Ultra lineup, the company is reportedly using the Arrow Lake architecture for its low-cost designs, slotting below Lunar Lake.

The new information originated from leaker @SquashBionic, who answered a few questions on X (Twitter) regarding the nature of Arrow Lake architecture. It is implied that Arrow Lake (as Core Series 2) will largely take the role of Raptor Lake Refresh, which currently occupies the high-performance laptop segment (via 14th Gen Core) and low-cost laptops (via Core Series 1), while premium laptops currently occupied by Meteor Lake will be superseded by Lunar Lake (as Core Ultra Series 2).

Other key points of the Arrow Lake include the new Intel 3 process, which is expected to net a 10% gain on multi-core performance over Meteor Lake, which is on the Intel 4 process. Meanwhile, Lunar Lake will be using an even more advanced note, likely in the form of Intel 20A or 18A (equivalent to 2nm or 1.8nm respectively, by industry standards). On top of that, Lunar Lake is expected to feature a significantly upgraded architecture, up to 3x NPU uplift (this part is confirmed), and new iGPUs with Arc Battlemage architecture.

Given that Arrow Lake is expected to launch later this year to desktop first, the convention release timings should reasonably indicate that laptop Arrow Lake chips will be launched in CES 2025. AMD, meanwhile, will have its response ready by then in the form of Strix Point powered by Zen 5 architecture, as well as the mysterious “Strix Halo” super-APU.

Pokdepinion: This does seem to look like Intel is making the premium segment have a dedicated architecture over gaming or budget ones. Certainly an interesting strategy.
