Windows 11 PCs Will Soon Have AI Noise Reduction Feature Baked In

There’s a good chance that the laptop you use today has some form of background noise reduction technology built in courtesy of the OEM, and one such example is ASUS’s Two-Way AI Noise Cancellation. As spotted in Windows 11 Build 26040, Microsoft is looking to make this a standard feature for all Windows 11 systems moving forward.

Microsoft’s implementation of background noise reduction is called Voice Clarity, and for a while, it was exclusive to the company’s Surface laptops with NPUs (Neural Processing Units). Those currently in the Windows Insiders Canary Channel will see the feature now no longer requires NPU to work, meaning all PCs new and old will get clearer voices in conferencing and calls. One small caveat – this is not a system-wide feature per se, as it requires apps to support Communications Signal Processing Mode, but some apps and games already uses this feature today.

It’s worth noting that Canary Build is highly unstable by nature, as the latest code is first implemented in this development channel, so it’ll take a while before the rough edges get polished and eventually released as a public update. The same update also introduces various other enhancements, including support for USB4 Version 2.0 (80Gbps), updated Windows installer interface, content syncing in Snipping Tool, and more.

Pokdepinion: Since it doesn’t require NPU, I assume Windows 10 users may get this feature as well.
