Intel CEO Promises Panther Lake To Get 2x AI Performance Over Arrow Lake

Intel CEO Promises Panther Lake To Get 2x AI Performance Over Arrow Lake

In the recent Q4’23 earnings call, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger provided some numbers to expect for the next-gen architectures. Panther Lake – set to succeed both Arrow Lake (desktop/mainstream) and Lunar Lake (premium) architectures – will come with AI performance doubled over the aforementioned pair.

“The Core Ultra platform delivers leadership AI performance today with our next-generation platforms launching later this year, Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake tripling our AI performance. In 2025 with Panther Lake, we will grow AI performance up to an additional 2x,” said Gelsinger. Some napkin math will tell you that Panther Lake will achieve up to a 6x uplift in AI performance over Meteor Lake, the company’s first generation of NPU-infused processors (marketed as Core Ultra Series 1).

Team Blue will also continue its aggressive process node development, with 18A set to follow the 20A process currently utilized by the company’s upcoming Arrow Lake family of chips. Between Intel 4 and Intel 20A comes Intel 3 – and this will be used by datacenter-facing Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest-based Xeon CPUs set to launch later this year.

Given that Panther Lake is set to follow up on Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake, both of which are expected to launch in late 2024 at the earliest, expect Panther Lake to show up far into the year 2025.
