WhatsApp Now Enables A Quicker Way To Block Spam Messages
With an app as ubiquitous as WhatsApp, naturally spam and phishing attempts will slip through the cracks and reach the end users. While you can block the sender outright, getting to that button is a multi-step process that takes time to learn, especially for the elderly – often the most vulnerable group to scams.
Recently, the app developer has broadcasted a message via its dedicated channel in the chat app to introduce a new, simpler way to block spam messages. Now, any messages from unknown contacts will present themselves as a notification, with two buttons: “Reply”, and the newly-added “Block” option. Tap the “Block” option and you’ll be prompted with an option to report spam if needed, making the whole process as straightforward as it gets.
This is a small update that vastly improves the process – previously, a user must access the chat, tap the overflow menu, under the “More” option, and select Block from there to clean up the spam. Alternatively, a slightly quicker method was to long press the chat from the homepage, tap the overflow menu, and select “Block”.
