Lenovo Showcases A Transparent ThinkBook Concept At MWC 2024
It’s the MWC week, and while the event is mainly focused on smartphones, PC manufacturers like Lenovo are still present to showcase some of their latest technologies. In this case, the PC giant unveiled a rather unusual design in the ThinkBook chassis – it features a transparent display.
The ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept, as Lenovo calls it, sports a 17.3-inch MicroLED transparent display that aims to provide “a completely borderless and see-through display experience.” It’s not just the display: the keyboard area is also transparent, which can switch between a (presumably touch) keyboard and a virtual drawing board.
Lenovo’s idea is that the transparent panel offers interactions with physical objects by overlaying digital information, which happens to sound like how AR devices work. The laptop will rely on AI-generated content for this to work, although exactly how we’re not entirely sure. In any case, it’s a concept – the idea is what counts.
Aside from the concept laptop, the company is also showcasing its latest laptops. Among the introduced models are ThinkPad T14 i Gen 5, ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, ThinkPad T16 Gen 3, ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2, and ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4. All laptops are powered by Intel’s new Core Ultra processors, with vPro supported on select models. There’s also the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5, available with AMD Ryzen 8040 series processors.
Accompanying the new laptops are the latest accessories, including the new ThinkVision M14t Gen 2 Mobile Monitor (Touch). This portable display supports 2240 x 1440 resolution, 1500:1 contrast ratio, 100% sRGB color space, and 300 nits of brightness with its IPS panel; it’s also 10-point touch supported with 4096 levels of pressure detection. The ThinkPad Executive 16-inch Backpack and Lenovo USB-C Slim Travel Dock complete the MWC lineup, both featuring the use of recycled plastics in the manufacturing process.
