Synology Showcases Latest Data Management Solutions And Security Trends

Taiwanese data storage provider Synology today hosted a media presentation in Kuala Lumpur ahead of World Backup Day on March 31st. The event aimed to tackle the evolving landscape of data management and security trends, with a focus on the Malaysian market.

Jason Sin, Synology Malaysia’s Country Manager, highlighted the company’s substantial 50% market growth last year, driven largely by increased demand from SMBs and enterprises. The surge in demand for Synology’s backup solutions, exceeding 20%, is attributed to Malaysia’s emergence as a regional data center hub, further fueled by government initiatives promoting increased IT security spending.

The event addressed the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in adhering to stricter data governance requirements, particularly under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). These challenges include data breach notification protocols, data subject rights management, and the appointment of Data Protection Officers (DPOs) in certain cases. To that end, the event showcased some of the company’s latest features designed to make data security solutions more approachable for the end user.

In the live session, Synology demonstrated various solutions – features like Secure SignIn 2FA-based login, Active Backup for Business all-in-one data protection solution, and Snapshot Replication which provides data redundancy in the worst-case scenario that ransomware successfully infected the targeted system. It’s also designed to protect against “scorched earth” attempts from personnel aimed to sabotage the data integrity by providing persistent backup copies over time.

Synology presented its complete product lines, catering to individual users and enterprise-level storage and data protection needs. The company also teased that more is coming later this year. “We are excited to announce that we have more innovative solutions and hardware in the pipeline for later this year,” said Joanne Weng, Director of the Department of International Business at Synology.
