nubia Flip 5G Announced, Launching In Malaysia On April 15th

Chinese smartphone maker nubia today announces the introduction of its first-ever foldable smartphone, the nubia Flip 5G, which will soon enter the Malaysian market.

The nubia Flip 5G will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC – admittedly, quite a dated chip – with 8GB of RAM (+12GB dynamic RAM) and 256GB of internal storage. The most important part of a flip/foldable phone is its hinge, and here the company claims that it sustained more than 200,000 folds in its testing.

Meanwhile, the internal display is a 6.9-inch with 2790 x 1188 resolution (roughly 21.1:9 aspect ratio), 120Hz refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and a screen-to-body ratio of 95.4%. It also supports 2160Hz PWM dimming to reduce eye fatigue and is certified by SGS for its low blue light feature.

On the outside, the 466 x 466-pixel outer display is housed within the camera ring which packs a 50MP main camera and a depth sensor (plus a 16MP camera at the front). Aside from the usual use cases like notifications and essential information at a glance, nubia has mentioned “holding a 3D interactive pet in your palm” – looks like we’re looking at a glorified Tamagotchi, then. Aside from that, the smartphone also features a 4310mAh battery with 33W wired fast charging.

The nubia Flip 5G will be available in Sunshine Golden and Cosmic Black colorways starting April 15, 2024 – where it will be exclusively available via nubia Lazada Flagship Store. It’ll be available at RM3,999 – but for the first three days of sale, the company will slash the price down to RM2,499, followed by RM2,899 if purchased before May 15, 2024.

Pokdepinion: I’d imagine using SD7 Gen 3 is probably a better option though.
