The Malaysian automotive scene is abuzz with anticipation as the initial units of the highly-awaited Neta X electric vehicle (EV) have arrived at Port Klang, marking its imminent entry into the local market. Scheduled to be showcased at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow towards the end of May, the Neta X promises to redefine the landscape of electric mobility in Malaysia.

Preceding its official launch, pre-bookings for the Neta X will commence on May 6, offering eager customers the opportunity to secure their units online or through authorized Neta dealerships nationwide. Early indications suggest that the Neta X will be available in two variants: the ‘400’ version boasting a commendable 401 km of battery range, priced at less than RM125,000, and the ‘500’ variant offering an extended range of 501 km, both estimated to be priced below RM140,000.

Positioned strategically in the market, the Neta X is poised to fill a niche below the BYD Atto 3, which currently holds a price tag of RM149,800. Despite its competitive pricing, the Neta X distinguishes itself with its larger dimensions, measuring 4,619 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,628 mm in height, complemented by a generous wheelbase of 2,770 mm.

Equipped with a singular powertrain configuration, the Neta X is powered by a front-mounted motor generating 163 PS and 210 Nm of torque, drawing power from either a 51.8 kWh or 62 kWh battery. This formidable setup ensures a dynamic and responsive driving experience, promising unparalleled performance and efficiency in its segment.

In a significant development for the Malaysian automotive industry, this EV is poised to be joined by other models under the Neta lineup, with plans for local assembly (CKD) at the Chembong assembly plant in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan. Scheduled to commence assembly from October 2025, alongside the Aya model, the Neta X underscores Malaysia’s commitment to sustainable mobility and domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Driving this initiative forward are two joint venture companies: NexV Manufacturing (NMSB), responsible for assembly and manufacturing, and Intro Synergy (ISSB), entrusted with distribution and market penetration. With a projected output of 10,000 units in the first year, the Neta X is poised to carve a significant presence in the burgeoning EV landscape of Malaysia.

Pokdepinion: It’s a pretty solid package but I’m certain a whole lot of Malaysians are waiting for a more affordable, below RM100K EV at the moment. There’s a chance we might not get that this year but if it’s next year, I’m sure these people are willing to wait it out.
