iQOO Z9 5G & iQOO Z9x 5G Unveiled In Malaysia

vivo Unveils iQOO Z9 5G & iQOO Z9x 5G In Malaysia

Chinese smartphone maker vivo has officially taken the wraps off of its new smartphones under the gaming-centric iQOO sub-brand, the Z9 5G and the Z9x 5G. The company says the new smartphone’s design took inspiration from this particular BMW 2 Series (courtesy of its partnership with BMW Millenium Welt), and we’ll let you be the judge.

Despite sharing similar names, the iQOO Z9 and iQOO Z9x have quite a few differences on the hardware side of things. The biggest of them all lies in the processor – the more powerful model, the Z9, features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC, whereas the cheaper Z9x variant gets the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC instead. The bigger brother also gets a slightly higher resolution AMOLED display rated for 4,500 nits of peak brightness and 144Hz refresh rate, while the little brother gets a more pedestrian 1,000 nits and 120Hz respectively.

Interestingly, the spec sheet indicates that the Z9x has a feature that is not seen on the Z9: the venerable headphone jack. Those getting the Z9 will have to stick to USB-C headphones or pony up for Bluetooth earbuds instead, but both should give you plenty of endurance thanks to a sizeable 6,000mAh battery (though charging speeds differ between the two). vivo is also generous enough to provide both models with up to 12GB of RAM (plus another 12GB as “extended RAM) to handle more apps running simultaneously.

iQOO is offering two variants for the iQOO Z9 and three variants for the iQOO Z9x – for the former, you have the option 12+256GB and 8+256GB (online exclusive) at RM1,499 and RM1,399 respectively; while the latter is available with 12+256GB (RM1,199), 8+256GB (RM1,099 – online exclusive), and 8+128GB (RM999 – Shopee exclusive) options.

Pokdepinion: Quite a lot of hardware differences despite sharing similar names.
