This discovery is made by AssembleDebug and Android Authority, who reports that several references has been made to this feature in the beta version of YouTube app on Android (version 19.25.33). Based on the strings, it looks like the feature will allow the user to specify the countdown time in hours and minutes format. The “sleep_timer_notification_channel_name” suggests that a notification may appear once this is turned on.

Furthermore, under the “sleeptimer_dialog_message”, a text prompt reads: “You can reset the timer or click done to keep watching”, suggesting that user can either turn off the sleep timer entirely or reset the timer again if the user wants to watch content for a bit longer. It’s worth noting that sleep timer already exist on YouTube’s sister app, YouTube Music, so having this feature added on the video-focused counterpart should be a fairly straightforward affair.

That said, there is no indication so far as to when this feature will be released to the public, so users might have to wait for a bit before the feature rolls out to all users.
