Netflix Subscription Plans Sees A Price Hike

Netflix has just increased the rates of all its subscription plans in the United States and Canada. The new rates now see the Standard Plan (up to 1080p resolution with support for two concurrent devices) go from USD14 to USD15.49 while the Premium Plan (up to 4K resolution streaming with support for four concurrent devices) has risen from USD18 to USD20 and the Basic Plan (up to 480p resolution with support for a single concurrent device) is now USD9.99 from USD8.99.

Price increase for all Netflix subscription plans

The price increase for the plans will begin immediately for new subscribers of the streaming service and will be rolled out gradually for existing subscribers. Netflix says that they will send an email to all existing subscribers 30 days before the price increase starts taking effect. According to a spokesperson for the streaming service, the reasoning behind the price increase is so that they “can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options.”

At the moment of writing, there is no news of Netflix Malaysia increasing the rates of their subscription plan. The last time we saw a major rise in local prices was back in 2019 when the streaming service increased the plan rates to RM35 for their Basic Plan, RM45 for their Standard Plan and RM55 for their Premium Plan.

Pokdepinion: I find this kind of baffling from Netflix especially when there are so many similar streaming services competing in the same market. Would’ve been sensible if they keep their prices low to stave off the competition. I sincerely hope that Netflix Malaysia does not follow suit in increasing their subscription plan rates though I would not be surprised if they do so.
