Blizzard has just announced that the new Year of the Hydra is coming soon, marking the end of the current Year of the Gryphon. The next in-game year will begin on 12th April, with the release of Voyage to the Sunken City. The free Core set will increase to 250 cards, with 72 returning and modified cards cycling in, including Reno Jackson and Wild Pyromancer.

Enter the Year of the Hydra

The next Hearthstone year, the Year of the Hydra is all about adding new content and changes to the game’s existing modes all while focusing on sustainability and performance. Players may anticipate quality-of-life and other enhancements, such as the ability to equip a random hero skin, in-game reporting, and an overall focus on client-performance enhancements. This is in addition to the standard three-card sets and a mountain of anticipated new material for Battlegrounds, Mercenaries, and other games.

The Year of the Hydra will begin on April 12 with the release of Voyage to the Sunken City, followed by set rotation, which will send Ashes of Outland, Scholomance Academy, and Madness at the Darkmoon Faire to Wild. The Standard card pool will comprise Forged in the Barrens, United in Stormwind, Fractured in Alterac Valley, Voyage to the Sunken City, and the Core set after set rotation.

Updates to the Core set will go live during set rotation, in a shuffle that rotates out 57 cards and brings in 72, for a new total of 250 total cards in Core, 15 more than last year. These new cards are made up of returning cards, some of which have been updated for the current game. Reno Jackson, Brann Bronzebeard, Elise Starseeker, and Sir Finley Mrrgglton are among the original League of Explorers cards returning to the Core set. Voidwalker, Wild Pyromancer, Acolyte of Pain, Mossy Horror, Cloaked Huntress, and Fandral Staghelm are also returning favourites.

Pokdepinion: Looking forward to the new year. I also really like how Voyage to the Sunken City is making the game feel a little different as a whole.
